How to locate the source of cat urine odor

The location of the urine deposit outside the litter box is key in eliminating the odor. There may be more than one spot but with some detective work on your part you should be able to find the source of the odor

Some ways of locating the source of cat urine odor are:

  • Your Nose:  Your nose will let you know the approximate location of the source of the odor. It may even be able to assist you in pin pointing the source.
  • Your Eyes:  Look for spots -- either damp or dried. Since the odor stems from depositing urine outside the litter box, the spots will tell you the source of the odor
  • Black Light or UV Light:  Sometimes it is difficult to determine the exact source of the odor especially if it is from spraying and is in several areas. A black light will help you determine the location of cat urine. The minerals in cat urine will show up as a bright yellow under a black light.
